Self-application of stickers & call signs
In general, self-application of lettering and registration markings is entirely possible without problems. However, some experience with large-format decals and sufficient space for clean, tension-free installation are highly recommended.
For the installation, at least two people — ideally three — should be available. A large, clean workspace is also required, such as a gymnasium or a similarly suitable area.
Before installation, the wing should be laid out flat and the lines carefully organized. The desired position of the lettering is then determined and the baseline marked. Ideally, the lettering should be positioned between two line levels and placed closer to the leading edge rather than near the trailing edge.
Before application, the transfer film should be pressed down carefully once again. The backing paper is then removed cautiously and the lettering positioned precisely. While two people keep the lower surface evenly tensioned, the third person gradually presses the decal into place step by step.
A completely wrinkle-free installation is especially important.
After installation, the lettering should rest for several minutes so the adhesive can fully activate. The transfer film can then be carefully removed.
If line attachment points have been covered, the material can be gently lifted at these areas, trimmed, and neatly adjusted. For multi-part lettering, the individual sections should be applied with a slight overlap.
Finally, all lines and attachment points should be checked carefully once again to ensure there are no restrictions or unintended bonding points.
